I have a Sony DVD/CD drive and it is having a weird problem where sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. When I try to install things it usually (not always) comes up what some kind of read Right error. Also I tried riping a CD and it only got a few seconds on some of the tracks but the others worked fine.

try flashing your bios too if its an error that occurs one time u boot and not the other. sometimes it´s a simple problem of the drive itself u cant fix then i would recommend a new one. they are damn cheap if it´s just a standard cd reader.
cheers

If you flash your bios be careful because if you do one thing wrong then your motherboard is toasted and you will need to replace it. Make sure you have printed instructions before you flash your bios. It could seem easy but, one wrong move could wreck your motherboard!

First try the cds in another computer that you know works if it doesn’t work it is the cds if it does work run UBCD4win and try working with the cds threw the tools they provide if this works we can be reasonably sure the problem is software if it doesn’t then replace the drive if it is software try using the basic windows driver and reinstall the application you are working with
